I’d been crying, she was tired

I’d been crying, she was tired, and neither of us wanted to join the day.

Teething baby, school reports, headaches, back pain, kindergarten.

I said hello, the baby smiled back, and the conversation began.

I calmed down, she relaxed, we talked.  Not for long, not about much but just enough for the sun to shine and smiles to emerge.

Buoyed by each other and the joint bond of the struggle to start the day, we went our separate ways.

Each with a smile on our face and energy to join the day. x
