17 Jan Travel review- Diamant Hotel Brisbane $99
It was 46 degrees and we came to a unanimous decision, a non-airconditioned city stay at my sisters (sorry Sarah!) was not an option. Straight to wotif.com where we found a ‘hot deal’ $99 of air-conditioned glory at Diamant Boutique Hotel, Spring Hill, Brisbane.
Service
Flawless. The lovely lady at reception had our booking (I’d booked on the 30 minute drive in, some hotels have probs with same day wotif bookings), directed us to parking (free street parks after 12 noon Saturday and all day Sunday, other wise $28 in secure lock up), hooked us up to our free wi-fi and let us know the O Bar and Restaurant downstairs would open at 5.30pm and 8.00am for Breakfast.
Room
The bed was amazing. Featuring the softest Microcloud encased Queen bed and crispest white linen you could imagine. It would make five star hotel stayers jealous.
We did have a moment of panic when the a/c sounded like a jet plane was taking off but reception assured us it would quiet down and it did.
T2 and Robert Harris are the complimentary beverages which is a nice little luxury and awesome when you’re a T2 fan like me. There is also a small but decent and well priced mini-bar selection.
Other things to note, is there’s a full length mirror in the hallway if someone’s in the bathroom you can sit on the the floor and do your make up like I did. The room is small, 18m2 according to the website, and is the width of the bed and side tables with room to move at the end but if it’s only a bed you need or a business overnight stay it’s perfect. If you need a desk you’ll need a different room and there are plenty of larger rooms available.
Bathroom
Large luxurious shower with paved in black slate tiles, modern sink and a hair dryer from this decade together with lemon and eucalyptus toiletries from Romy. The shower flow was strong and hot. Only improvement would be a bigger shelf to position make-up toiletries shavers etc.
Other
O Bar and Restaurant downstairs is great. Good drinks list, great service and a nice outlook. It looked dead when we arrived but it was closed! We were wrong about thinking it would be quiet being a little out of the city it had a good crowd Saturday night and was packed for Breakfast the next morning.
Diamant is part of the 8hotels chain with properties in locations as diverse as Bali, Canberra, Fiji, Melbourne, Paris and the Yarra Valley.
With no pool or gym Diamant cover this by offering complimentary pass to Fitness First which we didn’t have time to use but I’m sure business travellers would appreciate.
Verdict
Diamant Hotel is a little bit of luxury for a city getaway without the city price with the benefit of free street parking if you’re checking in for a Saturday night. A short walk or $6 cab to town if you’re legs are too weary. Ours was a special but rack rates aren’t too bad either around $170. We would stay again.
